On-page work is often the quickest way to lift rankings, because you do not need anyone else's permission. A clearer title, a better structured page or a few well placed internal links can move a page from page two to page one.
The checklist below is grouped into six areas. Use it for new pages and for refreshing pages that already get impressions but few clicks. For help across a whole site, see our On-Page SEO service.
A written SEO and AI search plan for your site in 1 business day.
Get my SEO plan Chat on WhatsApp- Match the page to one clear search intent before you write.
- Put the primary keyword in the title, H1, opening and URL, then use natural variations.
- Structure content with descriptive headings, short paragraphs and direct answers.
- Link to and from related pages with descriptive anchors.
- Check speed, mobile layout and schema before publishing.
Before you write: research and intent
- 1Confirm the page has one primary keyword in your keyword to URL map.
- 2Search the keyword and note which page types rank.
- 3List the subtopics and questions the top results cover.
- 4Add the gaps they miss, such as examples, data or local details.
- 5Decide the main action you want visitors to take.

- 1Write a unique title of about 50 to 60 characters with the primary keyword near the start.
- 2Add a benefit or angle that makes the result worth clicking.

- 4Include the keyword naturally in the description.
See our guides on how to write SEO title tags and how to write a meta description for examples.
Headings and content structure
